It’s a Beautiful Day

The incredibly talented Erin Prais-Hintz of Treasures Found is hosting a blog hop today, the Challenge of Music! We were to pick our favorite song and design a piece of jewelry related to that song.

I have many many favorite songs. Probably you do too! Many songs that speak to you, remind you of days gone by, boyfriends, rough times, fun times, plain old joy. Music has really always been a part of my life – at one point I played the piano. At one point I played the flute. My dad used to quiz me about songs on the radio on the way home from my grandmother’s house on Sunday nights. My first record was a Van Halen song! My cousin dated a radio dj and send me tapes of really cool bands like Santana. We would make up dances to songs we played on our boom box with my neighbors. Music is always there. When you’re happy, when you’re bored, when you’re sad, when you need some noise.

It was really really hard for me to come up with a favorite song. I love Led Zeppelin – almost every one of their songs. Thank You has to be one of my favorites – it almost became the subject of this post. However, after thinking and thinking and waiting until the last minute, I had to pick Beautiful Day by U2. This is about a man who loses his material things and feels better because he realizes the value of what he has. There are many reasons I chose this song, and you have many blogs to get through today, so I’ll leave with you with video and the words. Maybe you’ll have a beautiful day today too!

Here are the lyrics, and a link to the music on youtube!

The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There’s no room
No space to rent in this town

You’re out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you’re not moving anywhere

You thought you’d found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

It’s a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

You’re on the road
But you’ve got no destination
You’re in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You love this town
Even if that doesn’t ring true
You’ve been all over
And it’s been all over you

It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
It’s a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
Don’t need it now
Was a beautiful day

  1. This piece is so cool! The song is amazing, and you captured the joie de vivre" feel of the song with this cheerful, beautiful piece!

  2. I love the bracelet! The glass beads and the charms are fabulous and cheerful, and they go so well together.

That song is great, too — it's one that always makes me feel better when I listen to it.

  3. Led Zeppelin was on my short list too. I like the charms and the gypsy feel of your bracelet. Treasure collected together… and I hear the song in my head. It looks like the song sounds, even tho the song's message is more minimal. They fit, it seems to me.

  4. I love that song- I love to listen to it when i run- it makes me feel like my heart could just burst out of my chest (in a good way- not just from the running LOL) I think your bracelet is perfect for this! First, it looks like a musical instrument- I can practically hear those charms clinking and swinging together-second, all of the color and handmade beads and charms reflect the beauty of the creative spirit- great job Sue!

  5. Oh my gosh what a sweet surprise to see your piece includes some Hint Jewelry charms along with some of my favorite creative friends! What an amazing piece full of joy and to go with such an amazing song. Blessings to you πŸ™‚ xoxo Beth

  6. It's a beautiful day, and it's a beautiful bracelet! I love all the beads and charms … I bet it makes its own awesome music as well!

  7. Love your choice of song. I listened to a lot of U2 way back when. I like how you included the silver charms in the bracelet. Very pretty!

  8. Love your bracelet. The furnace glass is so cool and goes so well with the art charms you chose. I love bracelets with lots of beads and charms and yours is very wonderful.

  9. Great song choice. What a fun and "beautiful" bracelet! I Love the variety of glass beads and charms. It makes me smile! I too picked a song that speaks about joys in life and created a bracelet!

  10. Love the movement, the color and the heart in this piece, Miss Sue! I bet this would be a blast to wear. You cannot wear a charm bracelet without having smile on your face and this is just plain fun! Great song choice. I admit that I never really knew all the words. It reminds me that I need to stop and appreciate all the beauty that is right in front of me this minute. It is all about the attitude and this bracelet and song are so upbeat and positive. Thank you for sharing your awesome talent with all of us and for joining me on this musical journey! Enjoy the day.

  11. A beautiful charm bracelet for a beautiful day. Your bracelet is bright and fun. I love all the various charms you have incorporated.

  12. I love charm bracelets, though I have never been brave enough to try to make one. Yours is just gorgeous. It really is a beautiful day bracelet. I bet the way in jingles will make the wearer happy all day. U2 is a favorite of mine also and I do love that song.
